(Exod. 3). When Moses approached the bush, the Lord spoke to him. He related the plight of the Israelites and his plan to free them with the help of Moses. Moses balked. The Lord told Moses he would tell him what to say and promised that the Israelites and the Egyptians would listen to him. In fact, Egypt would provide Israel material help. Unconvinced, Moses queried: “But suppose.…” God responded with two acts of miraculous power, turning Moses’s walking stick into a snake and making his hand leprous.
